HELP!!!

Posted by Avrila

I’m posting this from Internet Exploder because Firefox and my computer are completely freaking out on each other. A few seconds after Firefox starts up, my computer bluescreens with a kernel_data_inpage_error. It gives error code 0×7A and says something unintelligible about win32k.sys.

Differential diagnosis and any ideas people can come up with, please.

Countdown to Moving

Posted by Avrila

My official move-out date is July 22nd.  There are things to figure out between then and now, like where I’m moving to, utilities on both ends, a trailer in which to move all my stuff…but mostly, I’m excited that moving is finally really going to happen, because it needs to happen for at least four different reasons.

  1. Thomas is there, and long distance sucks.
  2. The education job market here went from recruiting like crazy, which is why I was here in the first place, to completely crappy with layoffs and everything, in about the last year.  I’m SOL here in job search terms.
  3. The culture here is very anti-education.  They like raising test scores, but it has to happen this year; real education is a long-term process.
  4. My allergies are completely out of hand.

Mostly, though…I’ve had a saying that I live my life in two-year increments.  This shows up in that, on average, I’ve moved about every two years.  The crazy thing is, it looks like this is the last two-year increment, which could be reason #5 why this really needs to happen.  I’m ready to dig in, put down roots, and live a life instead of an increment.

Should have been a good day…

I finished and sent off the thing that’s been holding up my Oregon teaching license.  I sent off the paperwork that’s been holding up my degree.  I got most of the rest of my to-do list for the day done, even with wasting so much time on this one thing…

My credit union rolled out an “upgrade” that broke the way my parents send me bailouts.  And they don’t plan to fix “shared branching” until next month…um, yeah, that’s stupid.  Shared branching is what makes credit unions usable when there are national banks that people could just as easily use.  We found this out when they tried to send me money to cover the rent check I dropped off yesterday.  Western Union has a per-day, not per-transaction, statutory limit on transfers into Arizona, so that wasn’t an option.  So they tried to wire me the money, and that’s where things got stupid.

Apparently at my credit union there’s the account number and there’s the account numbercomposite triple beat.  The two are completely different things with the same name.  I added the colors so you’ll follow the next bit.  The instructions for a wire transfer say to include the member’s account number.  I gave my mom my account number, not knowing that there even was a difference.  (Probably to someone who does this stuff all the time, or a business major, this is obvious…but it’s a teachers’ credit union, so everything should be written on a level understandable by my classmates and coworkers.  If I can mess it up, some of them really don’t have a prayer.)

We figure this out, two hours later (half an hour of which was on hold listening to bad elevator music), too late for it to get fixed today.  My mom made it to her bank before they closed and started it processing, but it still has to float through the wires of wiring, and then my credit union has to process it, so, no sooner than tomorrow morning.

Last month, my rent check cleared my account on the 5th, but there was a weekend in there.  The 3rd, as in tomorrow, is completely reasonable.  So I might bounce a rent check.  And get huge fees from the management company.

I am not OK with this, but at this point there’s nothing that I can do.  I’m not OK with that either.

I got stuff done.  I accomplished stuff.  Important stuff.

It should have been a really good day, and I don’t get that many of those lately (most days are kind of “homework, nothing happened”), so I hate that it went to waste.
